SAFETY & PRIVACY

Made for kids. Built with care.

A reading app for children should know as little about them as possible. Here’s exactly what BookHero asks for, what it does with page photos, and how parents stay in control.

WHAT WE ASK FOR

Four things about each kid. That’s it.

A name

A first name or nickname, so the app can say hi.

Birth year

Only the year, to suggest a starting reading level.

An avatar

A character that represents them in the app.

An optional PIN

So siblings can’t spend each other’s tokens.

Kids don’t need an email address or an account of their own. Their profile lives inside the family account.

PAGE PHOTOS

A photo of a page, used once.

When a kid finishes reading, they photograph the last page. BookHero uses that photo for two things: reading the page number to track progress, and generating three questions about the text.

Once the session ends, the photo is discarded. It isn’t kept on the phone afterwards, and it isn’t used to build a gallery of your child’s books.

PARENT CONTROL

Kids can’t change the rules.

PIN or fingerprint

Parent mode is locked. Kids can read and play, but rates, balances and settings stay behind your PIN or fingerprint.

Supervised mode

Every session waits for your OK before tokens land. Good for the first weeks.

Trusted mode

Sessions credit straight away. Flagged ones, like a repeated page, still come to you.

No device takeover

BookHero doesn’t control the tablet, console or TV. It keeps score and the time, and you keep the final word.
