HOW IT WORKS

From the last page to the next game, in five steps.

BookHero sits between the bookshelf and the screen. Kids read on paper, prove it with a short quiz and earn tokens. You decide what those tokens are worth.

  1. Pick a book and start the timer

Any physical book on the shelf works. Add it once by scanning the ISBN barcode on the back cover, then tap start. The timer runs while they read, so you both know how long the session lasted.

  2. Read on paper

No e-reader, no screen glowing next to the book. BookHero is built around physical books with printed prose: novels, chapter books, school readers. Comics and graphic novels are coming later.

  3. Snap the last page

When they stop, they photograph the page they finished on. BookHero reads the page number to track progress, and flags a session for your review if the same page shows up twice. The photo is only used to build the quiz and is discarded when the session ends.

  4. Answer three questions

Three quick questions about what they just read, matched to their reading level. There are four levels, from Early Reader to Independent, and you pick the right one for each kid. Right answers earn bonus tokens.

  5. Earn tokens, then play

Tokens land in their bank. When they want to play, they spend tokens on minutes at the rate you set. A countdown warns them at 5 minutes and at 1 minute, so the end of screen time is never a surprise.

THE TOKEN MATH

Three things decide how many minutes they get.

How much they read

Tokens are based on how much text they got through, so a long chapter is worth more than a short one.

How well they understood

Right answers in the quiz add a bonus on top. Skimming doesn’t pay.

The rate you set

You decide how many tokens a minute of screen time costs. Change it any time from parent mode.

STREAKS

Reading every day pays a little extra.

Each day with a finished reading session lights up a flame on their week. Keep the streak going and bonus tokens land on top of the usual earnings. It nudges them toward a short daily read instead of one long Sunday marathon.
